Written by Basil Hasan
“Scissors (beep) knife,” I could hear the doctor asking for the tools to work on my body. Then and there I thought I was going to die so I decided to look back on why I got here.

I was in the house watching TV when my mother walked in. “What are you wearing?” I said. “It is an over garment,” she replied. “Why are you wearing it?” I asked. “I took me Shahadah, I’m a Muslim now.” she said. “Does this mean I have to be Muslim too?” I got nervous. “No you are fifteen years old you can make your own decisions.” She said.

I went outside it was hot and muggy. I could smell the tar that the contractors were putting on the roof across the street. You could hear the police helicopter fly by across the clear blue sky. I looked to the left and I seen that my friend Robert was coming. “What’s up Rell.”(O yeah I forgot to tell you my name is Darell Davis but my friends call me Rell.) “Nothing, chilling, holding down the block. You know the usual.” I said. Robert was the same height as me but his skin was darker he was the first out of all of us to get a beard and the first to sell drugs. He was really good at baseball but his wrong decisions kept him on the streets...

Love is a powerful word
You give it then you receive it
But as time passes by
You see it's all a lie
You try to deny the true meaning of LOVE

Lies
Open
Vigorous
Emotions

Death is a beautiful thing
it's life tremendous ending

Through life a human goes through sorrow and pain
death is what helps makes us lose that we can gain

as we live we are slowly dying from man's evilness
for example envy, committing murder, my favorite is loneliness

we are all sinners, who are only going to sin again
lord forgive us we don't really understand

all I'm saying is death gives a place
a place that takes us away from disgrace

Right decision

Baby you drive me crazy,
I want you to have my baby,
That's what I been thinking lately,
But now it feel like a maybe,
You got my feelings,
Going crazy like rabies,
Second hand guessing,
On the thing that you gave me,
I'm just praying to god,
Hoping you didn't lie,
Telling me fairy tales,
I don't know why,
I loved you,
like Bonnie & Clyde,
You left me like forest,
Then she died,
Now I'm all alone,
I thought you was gone ride,
I gotta live wild,
With shadows & dark clouds,
Seducing woman,

I don't love to feel proud,
& you unfaithful,
Using that beautiful smile,
The way that you talk,
You can get a million stars,
The way that you walk,
You can stop a million cars,
Ya voice when you sing,
They can hear it on mars,
I tried too hard,
To be your lucky charm,
Now you hurt my feelings,
& it's a storm going on,

I'm making this poem,
Because you're doing wrong,
I'm always dreaming about you,
Even when you're gone,
You my celebrity,
& I love you so strong,
I wanna have you in the morning,
Till the night time gone

P.s Why did you leave me all alone

She is still young and learning
She sits on her bed, staring out the window
She wonders what her future is going to be like
She hears God telling her to be strong or at least try to no matter what shes going through
She sees depression when she looks in the mirror
She wants to change her past
She is still young and learning

She pretends nothing is wrong but you can clearly see that it is
She feel something missing in her heart
She touch the pain that she bears inside rather than letting it go because she don't know how
She worry that the pain will never go away
She cries when she dwells, how mind in the past
She is still young and learning

She understand that she cannot change her past, nor ever forget it
She say nothing when it's everything
She dream shes being held with care in the darkness but wake up not knowing who was holding her, and wonders, was it just her holding herself?
She try standing still because she only finds herself going backwards when she move, and out of all the pain she been through
She hopes and prays that now shes in a better place she can find happiness to replace this sadness, Lord have mercy
She is still young and learning

                                    Lies

How you say You real,  When truly you're not,
I loved you for years,  You all that i got,
I had big plans,  & Dreams of kids,
Living a long life,  With us being rich like big

But now our love shot, & Everything dead ,
I got mad pain,  & You moving on ahead,
You slept with another guy,
Is it something that i did?
For me to hate, I forbid,
For you to lie it's up to me to forgive,
Without you, my fantasies couldn't live,

All the feelings I had, I just did away with,
I need truth not lies that I play with,
You the one that I need & want to stay with,
I'm the defendant,  While you're the plaintiff,
Your kiss & love - what I came with,

Your evidence of cheating on me was your body language,
But now I must move on,  We both start new dawns

P.s For you i made this song, poem Im gone & never coming home.

Devin shows his work in progress during class
The students worked on pointillism projects after learning about some artists of the period. They were not excited about starting the project ("That's all dots?") But as soon as their images started to take shape, they were a little more interested in the process. These are shots of the progress we have made so far. To see the finished products, come by for conferences this week or come to our art show at the end of the year!

If you are a student, this blog is looking for writers and submissions from your sketchbooks, etc. Contact Miss Haire in school or via email to get some extra credit and submit your work for the world to see!!

In other exciting news, our donors choose site was funded for our new art supplies in 1 day!!! Thank you to all of the donors!! We are not awaiting our new markers, colored pencils, paper, and tempera paint!
